How to choose a penis pump

A penis pump uses a cylinder and gentle vacuum to draw blood into the penis. People use them for temporary fullness, sensation and as part of foreplay. Results are temporary, and anyone with a medical condition should speak to a doctor first.

Pump type

Manual hand pumps, such as the Rev-Pump Trigger, are simple and affordable. Gauge pumps show the pressure, so you stay in control. Water-based (hydro) pumps like Bathmate Hydromax are used in the bath or shower; the water spreads pressure evenly. Electric pumps do the pumping for you.

Cylinder size

The cylinder needs to fit your length and girth with a good seal at the base. Bathmate's numbered models (5, 7, 9) relate to size, so check the sizing guidance on each product page before ordering.

Use it safely

Start with low pressure and short sessions, stop at any pain or numbness, and never use a pump for longer than the product instructions advise. A quick-release valve matters on any manual pump.

Pair it well

Many people pair a pump with a cock ring to help maintain fullness afterwards (for no more than 20 to 30 minutes), and a water-based lubricant to improve the seal.

Frequently asked

What does a penis pump do?

It creates a gentle vacuum that draws blood into the penis, giving a temporary feeling of fullness and heightened sensation.

Are the effects permanent?

No. Effects from a pump are temporary. Be wary of any product promising permanent enlargement.

Manual, electric or water pump?

Manual pumps give the most control for the money. Electric pumps are easiest to use. Water pumps are popular for even pressure and comfort.

Is it safe?

Used as directed, with low pressure and short sessions, most people use pumps without problems. Stop if anything hurts, and consult a doctor if you have a blood-clotting, circulation or other medical condition.

Is delivery discreet?

Always. Plain, unbranded packaging. UK delivery is free over £50 and £5.99 below that.
