How to choose a butt plug

A butt plug, or anal plug, is designed to be inserted and left in place, giving a sense of fullness on its own or alongside other play. The shape is simple: a tapered tip, a wider bulb, a narrow neck and a base. Getting the size, material and base right matters more than anything else.

The flared base is essential

Anything used anally must have a flared base or handle that stays outside the body. Check for one on any plug you choose, and never use an object that isn't designed for anal play.

Start small, or start with a kit

Choose your material

Silicone is non-porous, soft and warms quickly; the dual-density SilexD plugs have a firmer core with a softer outer layer. Vibrating and remote-control plugs

Lube, always
